why did one of my chicks die?

Hi xxmrsbellxx

I think hatcheries vary, but most will replace - send replacements now, give a refund to your credit card, or credit towards the next order for chicks that die in the first 48 hours after you receive them. Give the hatchery a call (I lost a few out of 86 from my order last week and McMurray placed the difference back on my Credit Card).

I called, they wont replace the chicks. She told me to put cooked egg w/o yolk and put it on their food to get protein into them.

I'm sorry if I missed this in another thread but how old were the chicks? Which hatchery did you order from?

So sorry for you loss!!!

Sometimes it's just meant to be. We bond so completely so fast with them that when we loose one it's hard. I had a chick that wasn't eating and drinking like my other chicks. I tried to get it to take some water and feed, but it just wouldn't. I put it on a heating pad on my lap one night she was 3 days old and she died in my lap. We both did our best.
