why did the chicken cross the road??

No, but I am working on changing that.  So far no neighbors have complained.

I have the same problem here. I took on the city council and raised hell in the papers. In the end I learned that people who support you will remain quiet and people who oppose you speak loud and clear! The city council punished me for being a trouble maker and I got fed up and dropped the whole thing. Chickens are still illegal here, but I have my small flock. The neighborhood kids love to come see them. I give them eggs to take home to eat. Every time I butcher a bird I share the dish it goes into with my neighbors. I don't have any roosters, and the birds are well cared for so they keep quiet. My neighbors don't complain either.

The political environment has A LOT to do with whether or not you can get your officials to even consider changing the laws. Right now Florida has many counties/cities considering changing the laws as there is a huge self-sustainable movement and people are getting more aware of what they are eating. There is a petition on Gopetition.com. For an issue to be considered it has to have community support and one way to show that is to get signatures. You also may have to educate people about chickens. There are so many misconceptions and I get people asking me questions all the time. We have birthday parties here and people see them and always ask questions. It is strange that it is now illegal to have chickens when before 1950 almost every household had their own chickens for eggs. It wasn't until the suburban movement started that chickens became illegal. This site is great at educating and may have tips for anyone wanting to change the laws where they live.
