So, I opened up the brooder door to let Nellie the broody hen out this morning for her daily walk/dustbath and I saw this egg in the nest...
The outer hard shell has "flaked off" like off a hard boiled egg that has been cracked all over. The Inner membrane feels like dried latex paint..pliable and rubbery. There is a small slit in the membrane that has a little smeared blood(?) around it. A neighboring egg in the nest also had some of the dried blood (?) on it. As of 2 days ago, all of Nellie's eggs were alive and kicking, including this one. She is on Day 18. Does anyvbody know what the heck could have happened to this egg? Yes, there is a chick inside, I can feel it, but don't have the guts to open it up completely, yet.
