Why did this happen to yolk?

Hello all. This is a first and I just spent quite a bit of time online trying to find out a reason without success. My chickens are two years old, free range, are fed organic layer pellets, mealworms, and garden vegetables. They have access to lots of bugs, etc. Many thanks for help.

The pic is not quite clear enough to see well when zoomed in on.
Looks like more than the typical meat spot on the yolk....
...and a piece of membrane just below.

I really appreciate you think a meat spot as well Aart. I can calm now. :)
 
If it's small, then I'll pick it out and eat the egg. It wouldn't really hurt to eat it. it'd just be like a little piece of chicken, sorta. Depends on if you get queasy about these sorta things.
