why did you get into chickens?

I didn't get into chickens. I was ambushed.

Minding my own business buying DUCK feed at the feed store when my friend says "You have GOT to see these funny looking chicks!!"

As I was walking over to see the chicks, I started seeing things out of focus. I got dizzy. I blacked out.

Next thing I remember is the flash of a camera. I was at home and THESE were on my counter.

I swear it is true.

i have heard twenty/twenty is going to do an investigation of things like that. the first show in the series is going to be on people who have actualy slept outside under quilts with ducks when they got worried about them and woke up with their neighbors laughing at them. i have no idea who the guest star on that show will be.

About two years ago I picked up Barbara Kilarski's book "Keep Chickens!" at the library - and was hooked! I read/researched/procrastinated for more than a year and finally got the 3 chix last May. I love my little chick-peas! DH was not sold on the idea at first, but finally allows as how "they make decent pets" (I know he loves them, too).

My turn!!!...When I was growing up my mother told me lots of stories of her childhood with her and my grandfather raising chickens during World War II and selling them to restaurants...her and my grandfather would ride the train into the larger town selling ...it was her job on her way to and from high school every morning/evening to stop at the henhouse coop they rented and feed and water the chickens....that coop is still standing and a landmark in town..I wish I had it here on my property.......

Fast forward to I use to live on a farm (my dream)...cows, chickens, goats, horses...so simple and I loved it....had to move with DH job...no more farm life...

Always said one day I will have chickens again to remind me of the farm....TSC and 8 RIR chicks in a box!...turned into roosters!!...lol...it's the one farm animal I can have here and enjoy....now I have buff orps...blue/black/splash orps and light brahmas...I'll always have chickens.....
