i had 6 goose eggs in the incubator 3 died early on and they others did great. i candled them every 2 days they had lots of growth and movement i candled them the last last time on day 26 they were fine and moving at that point i put them back in the incubator and left them day 30 came and nothing i left them another 5 days then candled them they were dead and they looked liquid and stank what went wrong i was turning by hand every 4 hours day and night temp between 98/100 and humidity 80% im thinking maybe i had a temp spike that i didn't catch maybe when i was out i was so annoyed with myself:(

We're hatching our first geese now, and they seem a bit finicky. Two hatched early...one with a ton of yolk still attached...not looking good. One more pipped...moving REALLY slowly. I'm a bit worried. I hope someone has some answers for you. I know I'll be watching.

Florasbell - sorry to hear your eggs didnt hatch. I would think your humidity was too high at 80%, was that all the way through?

I incubate dry and this gives me a humidity of 25% until external pipping when I raise it to 65-75%.

I have done really well with my chicks hatching and I hope I'll do well with keets (due on the 17th), but I've only hatched out a handful of goslings, although I get an egg every other day from my pair and should have a decent flock by now.
Well yesterday I decided to give the job to a broody and see if she can do better than the incubator. To be continued.

hi all the web sites iv been on have said to have the hum up at 70% to start and then 90% the last days i could never get it up that high usally bout 60% but managed to raise it to 80% with lots of damp sponges in there so im not sure shame tho

Your humidity problem is that there are two ways to measure humidity. The old way was using a wet bulb thermometer. Those measurements were very high like 60%+ The new way is with a dry bulb digital thermometer and those readings are much lower. The best way to know you are keeping the humidity correctly is to candle the eggs and watch for a gradual increase in air cell over time. By hatch the upper third of your goose egg should be air cell. The air cell is not usually round but is oval at hatch time. Candling at day 28 you should be able to see the goslings head very close to the air cell or actually in it

I am having a problem with too much moisture in my incubator this time around. We have gotten 8 inches of rain in April and 4 out of 5 of the next 5 days we expect rain. The air cell looks like 3 weeks rather than 4 weeks. The goslings should pip tomorrow . Ihave removed the water from my incubator last night and I am hoping the goslings do not drown when they pip. Finger's crossed and I have a prayer request into my cousin Brother Gabriel just in case:)

Like others have said, I agree that your humidity was a little bit high.
There could have been other factors... it sounds disgusting, but sometimes it helps to break them open and pinpoint the problem.
For example, if they had genetic deformities, you would never know!
