Why do chickens continue to poo during the night?

Just curious.
Do other animals do this? Is it a bird thing?
What is it about a chickens physiology that makes them keeping making droppings all night? Do they wake up as it happens or does it just drop out?

They have a crop that can stay full for a few hours, and food just keeps on moving down the line. Unlike mammals with large intestines and colons for waste to build up and be eliminated once, theirs just keeps on going, probably with help of their high fiber diets. LOL

As for if they wake up... no idea.

ive wondered just how long do chickens sleep at night....i know horses sleep very little at night but how long do chickens sleep for?

I think the true answer is "BECAUSE THEY CAN"

By just going while they sleep, they are able to sleep in the next morning, instead of having to wake up to go!!!

They do this to remind you not to wear your good shoes in the coop while gathering the morning eggs. They're so helpful.
