Why do chickens continue to poo during the night?

I've had 'em chase me around the coop in the middle of the night... Dont know why, they all just jumped off the perches and started followin me around.

umm, what were you doing in the middle of the night?

Makin sure there's no varmints! I always walk around at various times just to make sure all's well with all my stock. We got a mountain lion out here, not to mention a den of coyotes and just about everything else around here, so I check all my critters just cuz I can I guess LOL!

How absolutely true! I've got two pairs of shoes I'll wear into the coop, odds are I'll have one of them on in the morning - unless I forget and put on my studio shoes. Pam gets really upset when I track in coop bedding into the studio!

ive wondered just how long do chickens sleep at night....i know horses sleep very little at night but how long do chickens sleep for?

Birds tend to sleep for as long as it's dark. Horses sleep in short spurts of a couple hours staying awake during early morning and evening when the most predators would be out. Chickens just sleep while it's dark and run around while it's light. That makes them easy night time targets. That's why if you leave them outside at night you are very likely to lose some if not all.
