Why do chickens eat slugs?

I've heard that if something eats a slug it numbs that somethings mouth. I was wondering why chickens eat slugs and if this happens to them too.

i don't know but my adult hens love slugs... the little ones not so much.

The first time I gave my chickens a slug they didnt have the faintest idea what to do with it. NOW! Life has changed! While free ranging they have found a few on their own lately and try to eat them from the catchers mouth! Silly chickens! It seems the one who worked the hardest gets the least!

Because they can't get shrimp.

Seriously though, our's will eat anything that doesn't try and eat them first. Slugs included.

The only thing I've never seen our chickens eat are those little tiny bugs that live in damp places under old wood and stuff, not sure what they are called, we always just called them roly-polies. (They are light grey and look like an armadillo sorta)
They turn their beaks up at those.

those are called woodlice or woodlouse

and my chicken love them

i will lift a rock or old bit of wood from the ground and they will be all over it

i just tap it over the run and the chicken go crazy
