Why do hens yell when they are done laying?

I have 4 EEs. Two have been laying without nuch talk at all since the begining of December. A third on just started an it it crazy lound every morning! This morning I went out and the newest one had already layed and one of the other two was in the nest box. They were all sooo loud! I think she is the cause of all of it! What is she yelling about and why are the others joining in?

I think it's their way of saying "did you see the size of that thing?" and "I can't believe I survived that!".

Sounds crazy perhaps, but I found that after my layers numbered over twenty, no one, absolutely no one makes a peep. They go in, they do their business and get out. It's as if the others say, "Yeah, Yeah, Yean, we all lay eggs." "Get out of the box".

Some say it's bragging, some say it's more of an alarm call. Either way, it's loud.

Mine are mostly older layers. Some announce they're about to lay, some that they've just laid, some are silent about it. One walks outside the coop then does the egg song; gives me the impression she's trying to lure any predator to her and away from her egg. I dunno, maybe this is it and the others have had the instinct bred out of them or messed up with breeding. Some roos I've had will stand outside the nest box and sing the egg song. What's odd is the predator warning song sounds exactly the same, at least to me -- we once got a fox when a hen sang the egg song way away from the coop near the woods.

Youre not kidding! about them being loud! It's weird to me that the first two were pretty tight beaked about their laying but my most skittish EE(pure white,large green eggs) is now causing this big squaking screaming event every morning! Are they yelling about the ones in the box or the egg that was already laid?

Ducks are the opposite. Totally quiet when laying eggs, but loud and mouthy the entire rest of the time
