, I don't know what I am doing wrong...feed,heat,water
gezzzzzzzz what else do they require ? My DH has wanted some for the freezer for several years. The only ones that ever made it were massacred day before processing.......I would really appreciate any assistance anyone can give. It makes you wonder how they do it in the wild.........Thanks again ya'll.

Perhaps if you post what ARE doing for them (housing, feed, water, etc) some of the quail experts here may be able to point out what's going wrong. I am still learning, so I'm going to follow along.

Leslie,
When is your trouble starting?

Here is a basic run down of what we do.
when we remove them from the hatcher, they go in a plastic tote with the rubber shelf liner on the bottom.

We sprinkle their food directly on the floor. They do best with a very small crumble/mash. Some gamebird feed crumble is pretty large.
Starting them on the rubber liner and feeding on the floor, they learn to eat very quickly .
We use the quail drinkers for water.

As long as they are under a heat lamp and away from any draft, you should have no problem. They do chill easily.

I hope that helps,
Christie
