Because girl muscovies must be attracted to them. You can tell a lot about a chicken's health by looking at the comb. The caruncles will show indications of heath and fitness too.
I have a Muscovy girl who was 7 years old last July. She has all the Muscovy characteristics, except for caruncles. I had wondering whether it's because she's not outside a lot or if she was a mix. I've never allowed any of the neighborhood boys to mate her, so I guess we'll never know, but i've been leaning toward option A for a long time now.
