Why do my ducks lay small duck eggs once in a while. The egg we got this morning is about the size of a quarter?

I could only guess. The bright side is for eggs, you have lots of chicken stuff to pick from as needed. Weather, duck breed, and feed would play a role.

Depends. If it's a 1 off occurrence, like once or twice a year, it's nothing to worry about. If it keeps happening, it could be feed or animal health issues.

I saw it happen in my flock with a Purina 16% crumble mix I got at fleetfarm during April to May 2021. As soon as I moved them to a mix made at the local feedmill, my eggs got much better.
