Why do my hens all lay with their arses facing out?

And is there anything I can do to get them to lay facing the other direction in order to reduce the instances of eggs falling out of the nesting boxes? Our boxes are 13” deep.

That is obviously not enough for standard sized layers. For my LF breeds I provide bigger nestboxes of 45-50 cm.

And they might want some more privacy as well, your nestboxes look situated in a rather light and exposed area while chicken usually prefer quiet and dim nesting sites.

Maybe raising the front rims could help as well.
