So silly question....but we noticed with one of our Amauracanas would arch her back and lift up her wings a bit whenever approached to be picked up. Then I nticed a couple of the other Amauracanas started doing it...now our entire flock of 10 basically all do the same thing.

Just curious. Anyone know if this is just a natural defensive thing or somethign else?

They think you are the rooster and are being submissive in preparation for mating.

I'd have to say so! Get those girls a boy! Haha

Mine still do it when I go to pick them up even though they have a rooster that definitely tries every chance he gets!

I think it must just be a part of owning chickens.

You are their most supreme rooster, and master of the ladies

. As a bonus, they'll probably start laying eggs for you pretty soon, if they're not laying already.

This is a matter of submission and trust.

They spread their wings just a little partially and they squat down a little bit to let you know that they trust you and that they are being submissive to you.

I don't know how to post a picture here but I have a picture of my chickens doing the same thing
