Hi, I have two 4 month old pekin hens and they grew up with their one Indian runner guy best bud and they all acted normal and all the sudden after I let my girls be with the other flock (with more drakes) they started being extremely loud and quacking all the time! Like none of my other hens ever did this, the other hens would quack in the mornings and regularly threw out the day but not every time I go out side or see them. But my two Perkins are very loud, and now they are doing this weird thing with their heads where they point their head down and start speed walking while quacking. Does anyone else’s ducks do this? And do you know why? (I hope that wasn’t too confusing)

Any chance you can get a video of this? The quacking could be them trying to get your attention. Is their runner drake with them? The head down may be them charging. My little Buff Duck does this to me whenever she's mad at me in the morning because I have to carry her to the run

It sound like it may be the head movement they do when they choose a drake. To me, it looks like a disco move 🕺. But it could be a charge as well. A video would definitely confirm what is going on.

As to why they are quacking more, no idea. Some individual ducks are more talkative than others. Maybe they are telling everyone how happy they are or how upset they are, or their life story. They may settle down when they start laying.

Oh my gosh! Disco move! That's hilarious and such a perfect description! I love this comparison so so much

Now I'm sitting her thinking
🎶 Ah ah ah ah, staying alive, choosing my guy 🎶
The disco music is playing in my head now 😂

Such a great description, mine have the disco moves down pat. lol

I have 2 Buff Orpington ducks females who love to hear themselves quack. Maybe its the time of year or just the breed. But I'd say with your 4 month olds there are some hormonal changes going on and that may play a part too.
