Why do people dislike leghorns?

My leghorn chicks are the sweetest things, they will jump on my lap when I'm feeding them treats and will only take them by hand. If I put down a dish they just walk through it. Its always a game for them. They are very animated, when I walk into the room they all come running to me and look at me with those silly faces. They love to cuddle with my husband and kids. I really don't think there will be an issue with them when they're older, as long as there is a treat involved. I have them mixed with some Red Stars and a Mystery Chick and there is never a problem! Can't wait to get thier eggs!!!!!

Here is our Lexi and she is great!

Pretty much all of my "neighbors" on our stretch of county road raise chickens. Everyone has differing opinions. One neighbor raises Red Stars because they can't stand Leghorns but want lots of eggs. Another neighbor keeps about 50 layers and always tries to have at least a dozen leghorns in the group. She claims that if something does get into the coop, it'll be the leghorns that are still alive and clinging to the rafters. She has both brown and white leghorns, and when I buy eggs from her, the white eggs tend to be smaller than about half of the brown eggs and green eggs. Another neighbor would rather have bantams then leghorns, and just likes chickens, but doesn't put much emphasis on eggs. Me? I decided to go without leghorns in my mixed flock, but kinda wish I had thrown a few in.

Where is the comb???

Is that one of the rose-comb leghorns that I have seen for sale by some breeders???

I miss the eggs from my old leghorns (now soup). I don't miss the flighty nature of them.

For comparison, my sex-link brown egg layers are just as flighty. Must have something to do with them laying eggs every day

My two Brown Leghorns are amazingly tame. I got them from an auction and never really handled them. They are really easy to be around. A little hard to catch if scared though.

No,Milles are much like an Exechequer in personality..calm and quiet not flighty at all..or at least mine were.We still have a roo here and he's as good as they come.
Congrats on the hatch. They are not the same size layers as the white's though so there are trade offs.

awesome! I got them because they are so beautiful, eggs are a bonus!

I have 2 brown leghorns in my flock and they are very tame and always the first to run toward me begging. They lay good size eggs. I'm very happy with them and they are my DH's favorite. Next time I will get more brown leghorns - I like that they can move faster and are leaner than the BR's and RIR's. I just got 2 red sex links at 17 weeks old, and they seem very friendly. I'm waiting to see how they will be with egg production too.
