Why do roosters start to crow so early?

Mr. Rooster start in around 3:30-4am every morning. Its still pitch dark, so I just dont get it. I thought they would want to remain silent and "hidden" throughout the night. Not annoucne to the world were over here, come get me.

Any ideas?

The lenght of day is getting longer in the northern hemisphere. the first lightening of the sky is around that time in the morning. My rooster woke me up at 3:45 every morning this week. He raised such a rucas the hens joined in with their cackling, a great morning serenade

Fortunatly I can bearly hear them, so they can sing all night long if they want LOL. Was just laying away early this morning listening to him and wondering LOL.
