Personally, I'm not concerned about organic certification. I avoid chicken feeds with animal protein sources because of the antibiotics and other medications, which don't break down under heat treatment.
At best, the animals that go into chicken feed are parts from the slaughterhouse deemed unfit for human consumption. This would be portions of factory farmed cattle, swine, and chickens - all of which have been raised on a steady diet of preventative antibiotics.
At worst, it's well documented that many shelter euthanized dogs and cats end up in poultry feed. Aside from "Poor Fido," those animals were euthanized because they were sick. Meaning that their bodies contain a mixed bag of medications, toxins, flea treatment, what have you.
Not the kind of thing I want to feed my pet chickens, you know?
