...and lay their eggs under the old chicken house. Lay an egg way back there where I can't reach it. If I see another cochin go broody, and go broody under there, I will go crazy and completely seal it off. They have nice nest boxes on the ground for them, why dont they use them? Well some do but I find like 4 eggs under that darn chicken house (its like a really small house where the run would attach, off ground too). One egg was too far back and it grossed me out having to kneel in the dried out poo and shavings, and sticking my arm in there where mice or whatever could possibly live, plus it frustrated me that I couldn't reach it. I would have had to go face down, like laying down, in that shaving poop to get it.
The only thing good about it is that it supports a roost they sleep on at night. They sleep on the top of it too.
Sometimes they lay under the nestboxes outside of the run/coop thing, and a chicken pecks and eats it. If I don't collect fast enough. The cochins are mean too. The mama taking care of the chicks was the nicest broody ever. She never pecked us or "growl" at us. Those cochins though, not even sitting on eggs, mean little things. One went broody 6 weeks, finally got off last thursday. Stupid cochins went broody in the nest boxes, no wonder the rest are laying on the floor.
Should I block off the underneath part of the chicken sleep thing? Should I remove the cochins daily from the nest boxes to encourage them to get out?
