Why do we love chickens so much?

I love my chickens because; they are great companions, they make me popular in school, the eggs are great, make me laugh and the biggest reason I love my chickens is, they have an awesome personality.
:D

Love my chicks!! They are such neat creatures, they are great company especially in the evening time just before bed...er, roost. I usually do barn chores in the evening and the girls are always there to supervise and assist on occasion. There has been more than a couple of times when work stops just to pet some feathers and have a girl to girl talk!! They are totally unruffled by the cats' mousing in their house and they simply stare at the Beagles and the dogs' slink away......I wish I had such power!! All in all, they are the best therapy at the end of the day...........

I love watching them as they turn their heads an see that your there then run to you. I especially find it entertaining when I take a new container down to the chook run and they're all scared of it! Such splendid little creatures they are:)

For us, ME and two of my daughters, its an addiction. The wifey just doesn't understand. We are now starting to cross breed to see what diversity we can get in color patterns. Love the flock, they are more than pets that is for sure.

And its a great scientific learning experience and teaches responsibility.

There is a special place in heaven for you!! It warms my heart to know there are people like you. Everytime I think about the living conditions of our food animals it makes me sick at heart. My greatest wish is to have enough property to be self sufficient. It probably won't happen because after we raised our 8 kids we adopted 5more and our finances aren't great. Maybe I can just raise 13 children to love, respect and protect our animal friends.

We all love chickens!

We have a house full of pets (cats, dog, fish, birds, hedgehog). My children and I LOVE animals and can't imagine not having pets in our life.
We have 4 girls, one of which is a little black silkie and she is my baby girl. She loves to be held and snuggled on. She runs toward me full speed in the morning so that I can scoop her up and give her kisses. I crochet and sew almost every day and she knows my routine. When it's sewing/crochet time she will come to the back door and wait for me to bring her in the house. She quietly sits on my lap (along with 2 cats by my side and a dog at my feet) until I'm done. What amazes me is she has never pooped on me or in the house.
My other 3 girls are sweeties but are much more attached to my daughter. For some wonderful reason the moment I brought my baby silkie home, we locked eyes and fell in love with each other.

Best way for me to explain why I like my chickens,... They are soothing.
Sitting out in the yard having coffee and reading the morning paper, while my hens are close by, busy picking and scratching looking for bugs and/or seeds, just makes everything slow down. Know this sounds really old timey, but while I'm hanging my sheets on the line to dry, they always come around to check what I'm doing, busy chirping, clucking and fussing with each other, which reminds me of my gramma doing this exact thing, and those wonderful summer days of my childhood comes rushing back. Chicken are good for the soul.
