Why do we measure the heat that chickens produce in watts?

Watt isn't just an electrical unit, it's a measure of power in all sorts of circumstances. It's a unit that measures transfer of energy, one Watt is one Joule per second. It's used for measuring heat and energy output when electricity isn't involved e.g. energy from the sun, engine power etc and also apparently chicken body heat output. There we go, all those years spent getting an astronomy degree just came in useful
