Why do you love your chickens?

I couldn’t possibly narrow it down to any one reason as there are so many!

The joyous morning cackles as one girl gleefully announces the arrival of her sister’s egg. The day long entertainment and theater of their obsessive pecking and scratching about. New discoveries of natural food delights! (Oh look! Ants nest!!!) A soulful gaze into my eyes when I’m sad. Unconditional love from Gimpy and LizzyBeth, and their constant desire to be with me. Helping me scratch about and weed the flower beds. The peace and pastoral harmony at the end of a long summer day as the girls peck about on the lawn. Listening to the soft coos and trills as they settle in for the night. They are the perfect closer to a lazy summer day.

To my mind, there is no place half so much worth being, as simply being in the company of chickens!

because even when I'm broken hearted, discouraged and or mad they still smile at me and run up to me for a pet on the head or a treat.

They are the only critters that seem as joyful as I am to see a new day just because it's a new day. Everybody else just wants food.

They are my little stress sponges. When I'm having an at-the-end-of-my-rope day, they soak up all the stress, sadness and aggrevation and leave me with peace and a smile.

With my chickens as my dogs...I go out there and I talk to them, tell them how I feel, my inner thoughts, my fears and my tears...

I have there are 2 chicken and only these two, that acutally come up and when i talk to them, they jump by the roost near my face and come over and make soft warming sounds. I talk they stop, and I say what my baby...and they make the sound again. Its funny because they follow me close.

I know its sounds crazy and dumb...but it helps me.

They all keep me busy and focused. Like I told my daug. with my chickens they look forward to seeing me, and hearing from me, and taking care of them...they get excited!! I feel loved. Im looking into expanding also.

And because of my chickens...I HAVE FOUND AND MET MANY BYC FRIENDS, THAT ARE THERE FOR ME, AND SHOW CONCERN NOT JUST ABOUT CHICKENS...BUT ABOUT LIFE AND HOW IT USE TO BE YEARS BACK. I THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING HERE AND IN MY LIFE....IM TRULY BLESSED.

on that note..here is one of my chickens...the minute I walk in with food on the bin...she jumps on it talks to me and starts to eat, EVERY TIME!!!!

Chickens are beautiful.

They are tame and fun to hold.

Hatching eggs is the best hobby in the world! Thank you, chickens!

Last Saturday morning, I was making eggs and bacon, and I ran out of eggs. So I went to the coop for some fresh ones! How cool is that?!?

Is there any sound more calming and relaxing than that of chickens happily free ranging, or making those purring noises when they cuddle on your lap? I could fall asleep so easily to those sounds. Maybe I need to bunk with my chickens once in a while?! ha ha ha...

My mom is 82 and has Alzheimers. In the evening we sit on the deck and watch the chickens. They remind her of when she was a girl and she tells me stories of her childhood. Most I have heard many times before but sometimes there is a new one. I am thankfull that I get to have this time with her. I don't think you ever get to old to hear stories from your mom.
