Why do you own a rooster? Take the poll.

I was adamant that I didn't want rooster, but my husband did. He let me get chickens and built them an awesome coop......so, we got one. I'm so glad though! I love him for several reasons: he's beautiful, he's a great watch bird, he's protective of the girls, I love to hear him crow, he's fun to watch, and he keeps my girls in line! He has a full time job with that bunch of trouble makers. I'm hoping he'll make himself an apprentice at some point because he has a great temperament and personality.

Like others have said I ended up with roosters on accident. I couldn’t give them away and I don’t have the heart to cull. They are beautiful and keep a great eye on the flock.

Plus this guy is a good poppa! He lets them cuddle under him and tucks them under his wings. A better "mother" than his wifey hen!

You guys forgot to mention 'BEAUTY'. My roo is absolutely beautiful, that's another reason I keep him around.

I wasn’t hoping for roosters, but got them from SR. Also, Ideal sent me a bunch of cockerels as packing peanuts.

I have never heard a package peanut crow, have you?

We have a rooster for all the above reasons. Even though we've threatened to send him to freezer camp, Sometimes he has gotten overly protective of his girl's. But we still love our roo.

My family got our roo as a chick because we thought we would free range our flock and he'd give them some level of protection, but now we don't free range so he's really just my big baby!

Because they're super fun to own, and they're amazing protectors of the hens. Not to mention BEAUTIFUL! I have so many roosters and hope to get more!
