Because they bring peace in watching them, and it's fun and addicting to breed, hatch, sell, and raise chicks. I have a couple that are special to me, and I am to them.
Welcome aboard! This forum is filled with many knowledgeable folks to help answer your questions and/or concerns. As for why I opted to raise chickens and ducks, I started at a very young age of 2 when my grandfather gifted me a rooster as a pet...along with my very own water buffalo..hehe. Over time, the spouse and I have always loved animals and have always had homes with huge acreage...so why not raise chickens and ducks? We raise them as pets, and not for their meat, but don't have any problem going to Costco to buy a delicious rotisserie chicken. We have grandkids, so we use our flock to coax our kids to bring our grandkids over to play with our flocks.
