everytime i look for a broody breed orpington always pops up or when i look for a egg layer thay are there again mmm....

Perhps because they are known to go broody, are moderate producers of eggs, and are dual purpose also. Quite good to eat.

Coronation sussex are a better dual purpose bird than a orpington. They feather out sooner, lay sooner and lay more often. I've had black, lavender and buff orpingtons to compare with over the years.

I have a speckled Sussex hen who is pretty, doesn't pick on the docile bantams, survived being carried around by a bob cat and is a good layer. I think they are great birds : ) The coronation Sussex are beautiful! So are the light Sussex, and they are supposed to be better layers than the speckled. She isn't quite a year and has gone broody two times.

But English orps are fluffier!!!!
