Why does my chicken cross the road?

My chicken Greta keeps on leaving the orchard where she lives and wandering around the neighbourhood. I looked up why online and it said they do sometimes if they don't have enough food and water, though they definitely do. Once, some thatchers were taking up some thatch to dump in the forest when the found Greta in with it and another time, she wandered into a dog's garden (and managed to get away). I am surprised she is still in one piece, as she keeps on getting herself into trouble. Has anyone else experienced this and know what to do?

Do you only have the one chicken?
She may be looking for more chickens.
Keep her confined to a run and maybe get more chickens.

Single birds range a lot more. Combining with a same sex individual does not help with my American Games. Combing with several same sex flock mates or opposite sex can cause ranging habits to tighten up.
