Why does Pasty Butt kill a chick?

I think it will change the pH like the organic unfiltered type, however, the type with sediment is full of vitamins and very healthful for them and for us, too.

I read that a way to prevent pasty butt is to not keep the brooder temp too warm. I keep a thermometer in there, and always feel to make sure it's warm but not too hot. That's something I'm always very cautious about, and haven't had any pasty butt problems (accept for a chick who had other problems that resulted in this).

I keep organic ACV from Trader Joe's on hand just in case.
