I have a little Pekin bantam by the name of Oreo. She is almost eleven months old. She was raised alongside a Pekin cockerel and a bantam silkie pullet last year. At around six months old, in the autumn, the silkie started laying...but Oreo didn't.

So began the questioning, the doubt...was she in fact a he? She started crowing occasionally, and eschewed the cockerel's advances...yet she looked so much like a girl, I couldn't believe she was anything but a pullet. Months went by, winter came in, the silkie continued laying and brooding in cycles through the snow, but Oreo gave me zilch.

Then! Towards the end of January I noticed Oreo and the cockerel mating for the first time. Eggs couldn't be far off! And sure enough, about a week later, she was pacing around trying out nest boxes, finally settled, and out came a perfect little egg.

And that was it. One egg. Almost three weeks later, she hasn't laid again, but she continues to squat for the cockerel. What is going on??

I know it's still winter, but my other hens are laying. They all get the same layer pellets. Oreo eats plenty and is not bullied or anything like that. She seems perfectly healthy. She is definitely not sneakily laying anywhere outside the coop. She just isn't laying, which is especially annoying because I only kept the cockerel so that they would be a pair for breeding!

Has anyone ever had a chicken like this? Is there any chance things could change in the Spring?

This is Oreo (she was a black and white chick):

I have a leghorn pullet that has a similar problem, she laid one egg months after the other leghorn pullets started to lay, then she never laid another egg. She would occasionally bleed from her butt for a day or two but then it would stop. She also has some pretty long spurs coming in. She is also definitely a hen, she laid one egg, she squats for the roos and she has no rooster feathers. Although, she does not crow and has not crowded. I'm not sure what is wrong with her, I have never had a hen like her before. She is kept separate from the main flock, her partner in her little coop is a partially brain dead RIR rooster. Also, this hen was different from the other pullets that came with her, she grew way slower, by the time the other pullets started to lay she was only half their size and her crown was completely undeveloped.

I also have a silkie bantam, he/she has not crowded or laid an egg, she is 11 months old now. I posted picture of him/her on a different forum and most of the people who saw him/her said he/she was a hen, but a few said rooster, i'm still unsure what my silkie's gender is.
