??---Why don't they tuck their heads in their feathers when it's cold?

Despite keeping their coop very dry, I was disappointed that my hens got mild frostbite during the some nights this winter.
I thought they would keep their combs warm by tucking them. Don't all chickens do that? All have relatively small combs.
