Why even try to control myself?

Wow! I think I might be lucky that my small city allows only 4 hens per backyard! I won't have to rely on my own self control

I have no self-control....LOL! I have 24 chicks that just came from basement brooder to coop. Have another batch in incubator. Am buying some from another source, plus a roo that does not match any of these ages and loving it. I have 2 coops in operation and a third built. Need to insulate 3rd and build run. 4th coop is roughed in.

Good thing I do not have money , as then I would do it right and build one big long coop , with alot of runs going off of it.

Chickens are definatley addictive #$%^^#@#^*!!#%^

It's bad when you start counting them by breed instead of individuals. It's even worse when you aren't just into chickens. Right now, I have 7 5wk old cornish x, 10 3wk old pekin ducklings, 3 mystery layer chicks, a barred rock rooster chick a BB white turkey poult, 12 assorted ducklings that just hatched, 6 or so baby chicks that recently hatched (OEGB and barred rock?). I also have 9 mille fleur cochin eggs in the incubator, 6 silkie eggs coming soon, cayuga duck eggs coming, royal palm turkey eggs coming eventually, and I *think* that's it. Oh, wait, I just hatched out about a dozen button quail chicks, plus the two week old one, and the eight adults, not to mention about 20 more eggs. I also have six adult coturnix, four chicks and some of their eggs in the incubator. PLUS I want to get muscovy ducks once I can afford them. I just have to say, thank GOODNESS I've got a bunch of quail egg shipments to make (at least 60 eggs total). I am also butchering out my cornish x in another 2-3 weeks (which I'm actually bummed about now, since they're so docile), and in another 4ish weeks I'll be butchering out about half of my pekin ducklings. I'm also taking my just hatched chicks and ducklings to the livestock auction if no one picks them up by Monday night. That will all be a big sigh of relief. I just bought a 100lb bag of feed and it's almost gone already.

This is sort of my problem... I want ALL the different colors of eggs I can responsibly handle. This means MANY different breeds of chickens, and at least two more coops in the works. Hoefully that'll last a couple of years before I need to add more.
The man might have issues when the chicken houses are bigger than ours, so having a bunch of smaller houses will fix that, right?!

It's a darn good thing I don't have an incubator!

My husband wanted me to order some chickens. I asked him how many chickens he wanted me to order and he replied "Is 100 too many?" and I said its not a problem with me. I ordered 100 chicks (hard choice when there are so many cute ones in that hatchery catalog) and I recently ordered a few more and they are due to arrive somewhere around May 24th. I could not order all the breeds I really wanted because they are sold out until the end of June or somewhere in July. Here is what I decided on ordering which will arrive very soon: Black Australorps, White Orpingtons, Buff Rocks, Partidge Rocks, Columbian Wyandottes, Turkens, Blue Laced Red Wyandottes and New Hampshire Reds. Well I was getting really excited about the arrival of the chicks a few weeks ago and a local breeder had some baby chicks for sale and so I bought 25 more chicks (mostly ameracaunas).

Yeah, I only had three in a tub for a month in the laundry room and it drove the wife crazy. We used hay and had to clean it out daily or it would stink. I can't imagine so many as you had. Though it sounds like a blast.

I was lucky to find this site early on and learned that I would want a bunch more chickens so I built for a dozen or so.
