I followed one of my Cuckoo Marans hens today and found a nest that she had made in a bunch grass. There were Leghorn eggs, Marans eggs, and D'Uccle eggs in it. I was wondering why I wasn't getting enough eggs for the number of hens I have! Now, they are in lock down, no free-ranging for a few days. Or until they establish that they have to lay in the coop. They have plenty of leaves to dig through in their pen anyway.

Oh no. But so interesting that they behave that way. Are they chick or no-chick? Will you let her hatch them?

They are fertilized, but they were freezing each night since she wasn't broody and setting on them yet.

I had to throw them away

And since the nest was out in the pasture and there are foxes, skunks, and cats running around, I don't think it would've been a safe place for her to hatch them anyway.
I'll be perfectly happy if the goes brody in the safe coop though
