My 6 girls have slowed down quite a bit. I was getting 5 to 6 eggs a day and now only 1 to 2 daily. November will be 1 year ago they started laying. I notice they are molting and the summer was quite hot but now it is cooler and they are getting new feathers. What gives? How long are hens in their prime?

It could be lots of things -- shorter days, still taking a break while finishing the moult, cool weather, etc. Generally they lay well about 1 1/2 years then moult then lay a bit less, but larger eggs. Since they are close to 1 1/2 years this may be the time they start laying fewer but larger eggs You could also have an egg eater, or a snake or somethi9ng that steals some. And I'm sure there are other possibilities that I just haven't thought of.
