Why have a backyard flock when you can buy Extra Large Eggs for 73 cents per dozen?

I love this thread!

All of the points mostly mentioned are close to heart here.

Neighbors love the eggs! It is one thing friends and family say - Gotta get some more eggs, and they come to you.

Children love the chickens! Their friends love them too!! The first thing friends do when they come over is run to the flock.

Hatching chicks - there isn't another feeling for it.. it is amazing and fun! Family, friends love it..and holding the little one.

As others mentioned, chickens are quite the show. Seeing them on camera or in person with their quirky antics is always nice.

Taste? I sure know that I can taste the freshness in "fresh" eggs. The different colors, patterns, and shapes are truly a benefit to all. Friends who have never seen an olive egg ask if it came from a chicken.. "yes, Yes it did!" or speckled eggs. Wellsummer eggs are quite beautiful.

Oh, and as the chicken connoisseur - you can show off your silkies, frizzles, and adorable hens that some would say - are you sure that is a chicken? =)

All good stuff - sad when they pass. We had 4 die from mereks disease. Each one was a precious being who the family mourned for. Many graves dug stumps for tombstones and sad kiddos. As the cycle of life and death wane; new hens are added to our flock which brings in more new names; who's whose chicken; and attempting to hatch under a broody hen. The excitement ensues, again!

Life lessons, 101.
