WHY HOUDANS AND YOGURT MAY NOT BE A GOOD IDEA

Acting on some advice I found at BYC, I gave my Houdan hen a treat of strawberry yogurt last week. Her head feathers all lay to one side, covering her right eye, so she has this crazy pirate thing going on. So how did she eat the yogurt ? by laying the side of her head in the dish and slurping it up. The next morning she had dirt, shavings, and other birds' feathers stuck to the top of her head ! Not only did she look ridiculous, she was attracting flies ! So yesterday out came the baby shampoo, and although she was less than thrilled, she certainly looked a lot better when we were finished. The dilemmas you never think you'll have when you got the hens !

* Mine somehow dragged her comb through her own poo early this morning and had one feather sticking to it straight up. Not quite "Fashion Week" ready, I don't think. . . .
