Why I Love Barred Rocks (PIC)

Fire up the bator then, girl. OR if you don't have one, get one. OR, I'll hatch em and you just come up and get 'em and we'll have a nice visit! You do need some new girls from new bloodlines, too, right? I can promise there'll be a boy in the bunch, LOL.

I have BR & White Leghorn mixed. A couple have no tail except alittle curly feathers, but the comb is creamy and no waddle. Is it a hen? They are about 3 months old. All the chicks with hen tails and these type all have the same heads. Creamy, barely a comb and no waddle.

This thread is positively ancient, almost 5 years old!

Barred Rocks are still my favorite. More have come and gone since this posted.

luvussomechicks, you'll need to post pictures in the What Breed or Gender section. Can't really answer your question without pictures. (psst, it's "wattles", not "waddles").

Glad she posted on it, I never would have come across such cute pictures! My boys/girls are the same way. Those barred rocks know how to win you over!

They like to think they are part of the human family and deserve to do human things.. Like sit in human chairs.

My Lexie, who died awhile back at the age of 5 1/2, loved to swing in the hammock. Dottie has followed in her footsteps-caught her swinging one day, LOL. They are full of personality, for sure!

I've always found mine loved to talk up a storm. You would talk to them, and they'd go on bawking back. It's one of my favourite things about them. If it wasn't for my first barred rock, Dixie, I would not be nearly this much into chickens. Who knew they could have such personality and healing power (healing of the soul). I hated going outside before I got chickens. Now I relax with a book and a lawn chair out and enjoy the mischievousness of my flock. All thanks to one beautiful barred rock full of personality!
