Hey guys, some of you (@AidKD @cooingdove etc) might be wondering why I was gone, what happened etc. If nobody was wondering, that’s fine I still want to share my story! (sniffle)
Ok so I’m sure some of you know that there were (and still are some) major fires throughout California/Oregon/Washington. Well.... (pause for dramatic effect) that’s pretty much why I was gone, I actually don’t know why I’m making a whole thread about it
Anyways, on September 13, pretty much everything in my town closed due to smoke. Then the next day (September 14), there was a major fire 5 miles from my house. I was very dumb and stayed home because I felt if my land burnt down and my chicks died I would never own chickens again (very dramatic but I tried to make up the best excuses for myself to stay home). Well on September 15, I had plans to go up to Washington to meet my dog breeder person (I’m getting a dog), and the smoke calmed down a bit and then I got a message that there was a fire (separate from the big one) 1 mile from my house. 1 mile. And I was an hour and a half away from my house. So I quickly got home and when I got back I got another message saying the small fire only burned about 1 acre, it was just a tiny vegetation fire (is what I thought). But then an hour later, I get a message that the major fire is creeping down the mountain and if that wasn’t bad enough, I go outside and the whole sky is red, black (with smoke) and orange. It was so hard to breath I had to wear a mask at my own house!! (I think I took some pictures but I’ll have to dig them up later.) I was so scared that I drove to my grandmas house (who thankfully lives only 15 miles away) and I took all of my important stuff with me (except my cats and chickens). The reason that I didn’t take them was because I wasn’t even in an evacuation area yet, (even though I did get a call from my neighbor saying they wanted to evacuate my whole neighborhood/road). I made daily trips that were about 2/3 hours long so I could tend to my chickens/cats. The reason I didn’t spend the night there is because I didn’t want to have to sleep in a mask basically. The smoke was so bad at my house, and even at my grandmas house it was bad. The fire crept creeping down the hill which made the smoke worse and so I kept my chickens inside (didn’t let them out to free range) and gave them 3 different ways to access clean/fresh water. (Their coop is large for 12 birds and I didn’t see any peckage when I got back). Anyways, a couple days later, I went back to my house and stayed there because the smoke was calming down. Also because I was busy the next day. The smoke eventually died down, but we still have some fog haze currently. Well, of course the second the smoke went away, I was super busy (like 3x busier than before). I was so busy that I started to feel so sad I would cry and eat ice cream every day (literally!). So while I was super busy, I got a sore throat and started freaking out that it was because of the smoke. I laid in bed and tried to sleep the whole day, but it didn’t work. Well while I was busy with that, my chickens laid their first egg!! I spent the whole day celebrating with them, and it was the best egg I’ve ever eaten, no joke! The good thing is that while I got my mind off my throat, it went away. A couple days later, my work/chores and sore throat calmed down and now I finally have the chance to go back to my happy place on byc! So yeah, that’s why I was gone for a bit. (Sorry if it’s not the exciting story you were hoping for)

(I really don’t know why I just made a whole thread about this but I really needed to get it out.)
