Why? Is it greed?

They oughta figure out how to ban pre-sales.
Why? It's the beauty of free enterprise in a capitalist market. Supply and demand. Seller creates an artificial supply based on a (poorly) conceived idea of demand, and the market bears the results. The system worked. The seller received no bids on their auction.

If the system works, why implement rules to stop the inevitable?

This economy WILL NOT support an artificial market in ANYTHING, even Beanie Babies, Teletubbies, Tickle Me Elmos, Peacocks, or XBoxes. It simply won't. But knowing all of this.... Why would you want to implement controls on a system that has already proven to regulate itself?

Perhaps it's an opportunity for someone to get orders in before the prices go way up in the spring? How can I have a problem with this when I have taken advantage of Kevin Porter selling turkey poults as a presale? I ordered when he had a percentage off in the fall for the next years poults. Anything could have happened over the winter. I have a rule for myself for situations like that... never pay more than I could afford to lose. (The same goes for loaning money to a friend or a relative). Even if I won the bid and they shipped the eggs, I could (and have) still end up with no chicks to show for the money spent.

I am certainly hoping to sell peafowl eggs next year to help with the feed bill but I could never begin to think of putting up ads now! I truly prefer to wait and see if the peafowl even lay for me!
And golly, I hope I can get even half that price. But to offer eggs now? No way!
Like you all pointed out, anything could happen. I have had circumstances happen in the past where I had to return payment when birds did not lay as I had hoped and that was in a few weeks, not months.

And I, too, do not believe I am part of the peafowl council but decided to give my 2 cents worth!

I try to be regular! I so want to learn a lot more about peafowl. It started out being only 2 pairs given to me and now I am up to 6 pair plus extra girls. Oh my! I feel lucky and inadequate, at the same time!
