Why is it that when I fix (insert whatever food or snack) and only make one, I am left hungry and wanting, but if I make two I can barely finish the first?

Why is it that all the chickens go easily back into the run for a handful of scratch except that one hen ... and all the rest laugh as they turn around and "fly the coop" before I can get the renegade through the gate?
