Why is my chicken is hissing at people?

My 1 year old chicken named cookie has been hissing at everyone!Even other chickens,at first it was just at my brother I thought she was showing him that she was boss,but soon she hissed at everyone and she puffs up when she does this.I thought maybe she was broody but she still lays and does not sit on the nesting box other then to lay.I have also recently had 2 out of 4 hens go broody and if she goes broody that will be 3.what is happening with my chicken?

Most don't go into full-on "broody mode" until they have a clutch of eggs to sit on. When I'm testing a hen to see if she's good and properly broody, I give her 5-6 wooden dummy eggs in her favorite nesting spot and wait to see if she'll sit on them for at around three days, and especially if she sits on them at night. If she does, she gets real eggs to sit on and the chance to be a mama.

I love a good broody and am always hoping that more of my girls will go broody, so I always keep fake eggs in one of the nesting boxes to encourage broodiness. It also has the added benefit of showing new layers where to lay their eggs because, "hey, this must be a primo spot since lots of other hens have already laid here!"

I had a broody who would sit on golf balls. I don't recommend this, because when they hatch, the chicks look like Tiger Woods!
