Why is my chicken making this noise?

Today I was holding Rosy, our 27 week old SS, in my lap, and my mom started talking to her. Then she would keep making this weird noise, it sounds kind of like a purr. Anyway, I have a video of it on youtube. Here's the link:

That, my friend, is a contented chicken. I call it a "trill" and it just melts my heart.

Lulu makes that sound all the time. It is like a purr. She is content and happy. Lucky you and lucky chickie!

yup, they usually make that nois e when they're settling down for the night or being petted

Sounds like a happy chicken to me - getting ready for a cat nap.

either she's going broody or she's a happy chicken one! My broodies make that same sound.

She's sort of broody - she'll sit on eggs and make this one noise (I call it the raccoon noise) when she's nesting. I guess she's happy then!
