why is my chicken puffed. and feathers thinning. pics.

one of my chickens seems to be puffed up and spending alot of time in the coop. her feathers are also thinging some of the other chickens feathers are looking the same but they arent puffed up. here are some pictures.

how is her eating, drinking and poop? egg laying?

puffing up can mean not feeling well, especially combined with her hanging out in coop. hope it's nothing but it's so good you're asking/observing so that hopefully any trouble can be treated before too serious.

shes eating and drinking but i have to get her out of the coop when i feed. i just went back out there and she was in the coop agian on a nest. there are no eggs in it. this past week ive only been getting about 5 eggs yesteray i only got two. i usally get about 10 or 11. i have seen her poop so i dont know about that. she sees ok just puffed up and hangng out on a nest.

I wonder if she's broody? If you're having to go in and get her off the nest, eggs or not, she could be broody and broods tend to be grumpy. I know when I would take mine off to go eat (cause I had no fertile eggs for her) she was always very cranky about it and would puff while she was off the nest.

Uh, she's getting ready to be broody probably. That puffiness is what they do to try to ward off other hens. I betcha she'll be broody soon. Leave some eggs in there for her to sit on if you want to find out!

should i try to find some fertile eggs or should i try to break her from going broody?

Yep! she's broody. My Buttercup did that for about 2 weeks. when we lifted her out of the nestbox 2xdaily, she would puff up, drop her wings and strut around and "cuss" us. She eventually stopped.
