why is my chickens poop red??

i have a barred rock pullet, i think about 3-4 weeks old, had her about 2 weeks, and her poop is nasty gooey red! all the other 4 pullets have normal chicken poop. any ideas?? is she sick or have some disease? its really gross!!

especially when she gets out of the brooder box and poops on my carpet!!!

You can also use a WHITE paper towel and dab to see if it is really BLOOD< or put the poop in water to see if the water turns pink....

If it really id Blood and she is doing this all the time...she could have a contagious illness called Cocci....and in that case all your birds need to be treated ASAP...
Keep her isolated until you know for sure !

Is she eating and drinking ok, lost any weight, breathing or acting strange?

wow that is a lot of poop. i didnt know there was such a large range haha! k so maybe its normal then...kinda is the red color in the last 3 in the "normal" section. i will do the water thing to see if the water turns pink. the poop doesnt look blood red, just pink/reddish, but gooey and not easy to clean up off the floor.

wow thank you for the chart and for your help!! I hope its not cocci or any disease! should they be eating the medicated food, or is the organic that i have been feeding them ok? maybe that has something to do with it?

she acts fine, growing good. shes actually the ring leader of the group. i added her about a week later than when i got the first four but right away kinda showed everyone who was boss and is actually kinda mean i think! will just walk behind one of the other girls and peck at them or pull a feather and they scream (peep really loud) and move out of her way. i assume this is normal hen pecking order behavior, or maybe i just picked a snob

Feeding medicated starter is really up to you...some do and some don't.

If they have not been out side then the chances of it being Cocci are really low.....
What kind of floor are you trying to clean it up off off???

You might want to think about SAND for coop and run material...then all you need to clean up is a kitty litter scooper

They have been outside for just a 1-2 hrs a day the past week since they are getting so big. I live in Phx, and lately its been 115+ so I just put them out in the early mornings and late evenings when the weather is tolerable.

OK well since they have been outside...they are still exposed to the chance of Cocci, but the older they get the more they will Hopefully get an immunity built up (but not always)

Did you do the water or paper test?

My Arucauna chicken has some egg-like red things in her poop. I am really concerned. I looked at the poop charts and it doesn't look like anything in there. Its theyse red-ish egg like things. HELP ! Shes my favorite chicken. She seems to be eating just fine. She is starting to molt.
