Why is my chick's leg like this, and why is it hurt now?

Thank you so much everyone!!! Yes, it's a "lonely-only"..... we looked for other chicks for sale, but couldn't find any so we decided that a few eggs would do. The eggs are only a week away from hatching-hopefully we won't have only one little guy anymore! I hope that all your suggestions help, we will try them! Thanks guys!! I have witnessed one of the hens kick the chick away by kicking it the way it'd dig dirt.... but since we put the eggs in there the two hens have calmed down with the baby sleeping under them. The leg is a bit better, though not by much. I really appreciate all this help! This is their first and only hatch, Miss Jenny.

Now I have yet another problem! My chick has a wound on the same side as her injured leg-here's a picture. It's under her wing, so I held her wing up to show you! Please help, this one is more important than her leg! I don't want it getting infected....her leg is getting better, too, it's only about half of what it was yesterday, thankfully....

I'd appreciate any opinions, help, suggestion, explanation, or basically anything. =|

I have no explanation, unless somebody bit her. (They are sometimes cannibals, you know.) You can rub it with neosporin WITHOUT pain killers -- nothing with "caine" in it. It doesn't look like the sort of thing that is likely to get infected -- it's not near her butt, not under her body.

There is no need to cover it -- a bandage just draws more unpleasant attention. This chick may need to be hand raised, away from the mamas... and it would be good if it had a friend. Do you know anyone with chicks right now... anyone you can beg one chick from?

If it has to be raised alone, you can tape a mirror into her brooder and give her a stuffed animal to cuddle... stop laughing, people do this!
