Why is my hen attacking me?

Is it a rhode island red or a red breed perhaps? Usually the red ones can be aggressive. People have told me their rhode island reds are aggressive and one of my red sex links were aggressive with me once. one time my red sex link was attacking me and I kicked her away and I must of hurt her because she ran away and didn't bother me or anyone else after that, she probably took it that humans were dominant and she was pretty skittish after that but a day later she warmed up to me and now she is really friendly. I just pick her up and hold her when I want. She is one of my favorite chickens.
I just want to say I would not recommend hurting her, shoving her to the ground dominantly works fine, because they realize that you have control over them and once they stop moving then it means they understand you are boss

Have had this happen several times, mostly with hand fed chicks often as they come of age and get spunky. It's pretty easily curbed with calm and deliberate determination.

I peck them back, on the head or anywhere I can reach, with the tips of thumb and first 2 fingers, as hard and fast as many times as I can before they get away. Well, not hard enough to hurt them, just startle them and let them you mean business. That's what another chicken would do, so they understand that kind of communication.

If that doesn't work after a couple applications, I hold them down to the ground with my hand on their back until they submit....again firmly enough to get the job done but not hurt them....add a few finger pecks and/or tug on the feathers on the back of their neck.

I would never recommend hurting her either, I wasn't trying to hurt her, it is just when she attacked me I tried pushing her away but she kept jumping all over my leg so I tried kicking her off. Then she fell off of my leg and she must of hit the ground pretty hard since she started running away. I also tried a couple times holding her down to the ground and it never worked, I am sure it'll work with the other one though.

Never had that yet, except from a Turkey when I visited someone. But when sitting, one or two of mine are really spiteful. they grab a beak-full of the back of my aging hand and twist and turn. Often drawing blood.

If it's not the mouthy dog playing too hard, it's the beaky chickens. I shall have to check whether the local hospital has my blood type in case I get anemic... :)

Hmmm...another thing I do some days is firmly (but also gently) poke or tap them on the head. I have chicks I just integrated successfully, and I saw that the hens did this. (I’m pretty new so I’m sorry if you already know this)

That sounds like a great idea, I will have to try it with my birds if they ever get nasty.

My chicken is attacking me as well and I RAISED HER! It makes me really sad knowing that she would attack me like this because she is like my child to me. She is a broody hen and she is white. I don't know he breed though. She is about 6 3/4 years old. I will try to do the pushing down trick. There is just one problem when I do the peck-on-the-head-trick. It's that She makes her feathers big and tries to attack harder. It scares the crap outta me. She is super important to me and I love finding bugs for her. sometimes I find like 60 worms for her. this is not a joke. I spend a lot of time with her. I ACTUALLY find 60 worms for her almost everyday. Also, when I am bearfoot around her, she bites my feet really hard so I run away. Please respond as soon as possible because I can't stand her.
