I have a fairly new rooster (got him 2 months ago) and he crows a lot during the night, more than any other rooster I've had. Why? Is he upset? Is there anything I can do to have him quieter during the night?

Thanks!
Laurel

My roosters, and I have quite a few, start crowing to beat the dickens about 2 am. They seem to think that is time to get up. They are usually all quiet and tucked into bed about 5-6 pm because it is dark. Well, they are getting up at 2 am, and we don't have any lights outside. I sleep right through it all. I would have never known that they were even doing it if I wasn't getting home at 2 am from work last month. But, they keep crowing until bed time!

Any light at all will get a crower crowing.

Mine crowed until we turned the lights out and started again as
soon as just a ray of light got into the barn.

Our solution was to eat them.

Now we have 30 roos between 3 and
7 weeks old. One has started already crowing. The cycle repeats...

Could he be blind? Have you seen the latest Nyquil commercial???

If I get up in the middle of the night and turn on the kitchen light, my rooster crows. I think a light turned on in your house is all that a rooster needs to say hello. My Rhode Island Red says hello at odd hours.
I hear him crow right when I turn on a light, any light.
Its like he is saying,
"Whats for breakfast?"
worms?
cucumbers?
cranberries?
bread?
I always surprise them.
Usually he is ready for breakfast before Im ready to serve it.
