i have 6 4 month old chickens, my coop has 2 roosts one 4 feet off ground and the other one 5 feet off ground running opposite the first one. I have a ladder going up to reach either roosts. Well all five sleep on the lower roost and one sleeps in the egg laying box. I opn up the egg box and try and shoo it out so it will go one one of the roosts but it keeps going back into the box. Since she has been doing this i notice that there are always 5 eggs in the 2 egg boxes by 7:30 am and at about noon the last egg is layed. Up until a week ago all 6 eggs were layed by 8 am. Why is one sleeping in the box now. How do i get it to stay out until it is time to lay. I noticed now there is poop in one box every morning. I do clean it out every day help

You could block off the box once you think they're done laying. She'll have no choice but to roost or sleep on the floor. I don't know how well that will work out since your girls like to lay early in the a.m., but it's the only method I've tried. It worked for my hen.

Yep, block off the nests an hour before roost time...then unblock them when you lock up after dark.
I hatch chicks every year so finally rigged a hinged nest cover that's easy to use and always there if I need it, like yesterday to deter a broody wannabe(she's in a the broody breaker today).
