Why is this drake so aggressive?

It is a fairly common question and one I have posted myself. Worse during mating season which varies depending on your climate. Adding females to the ratio and/or separation helped me.
I don't think this posturing is confined to male ducks. Males of all shapes sizes, and species. :lau

My drake would do this to my females until he mated with them, and then after they would get along. Often I will see him chase one, mate and then she spends the rest of the day with him. I had a muscovy drake too that was a bigger jerk and had to cull him. It was a hard decision, but our pekin was getting injured from him. Everyone is much happier without him.

The biting and chasing is really not that bad if no one is bleeding. The muscovy do far worse to each other when establishing a pecking order. They look rather dramatic, flapping and talons and yanking on feathers, but blood is never drawn and no one is hurt.

I would be more worried about 2 males trying to mate with the females at once. They could drown her.

I have 3 males 3 females no problems yet. I had a duck get sick and was inside for a month. When she was better she was no longer part of the flock and everyone picked on her. I think if the duck is not being injured then let it sort out.
