I had a laptop when I was 8. Windows XP. I was fascinated with word processors. And writing stories was about the only thing I cared for on a PC or any electronic at the time. That and homemade movies of my stuffed animals and myself playing on the swing. I still read tons of books during that time. I still do read books.I do very much agree with this... My younger cousins have been raised by their tablets/phones. They hardly like to play outside. They sit around all day, watching tiktoks and all that crap. Well, the youngest (7) still plays with toys, but he almost always has some video playing on his phone while he does. I asked him the other day if he wanted to play pretend, use his imagination outside with me, and he straight up didn't understand me.
When they all do anything they always need to be making a tiktok or snapchat of it. Like, they can't just enjoy themselves without trying to become/imitate the microcelebrities and influencers that are popping up everywhere. I can't help but cringe.
Kids should be allowed to relax and do their own thing, not doing work/chores all the time, but I so wish parents wouldn't let technology raise their kids for them. There's no parent-child bond anymore.
My older cousin telling her toddler son and daughter "You're bugging me, go play with your tablet" happened all too often. And why read bedtime stories to your kid when youtube can do it for you?![]()
