Why isint there any Wild Bobwhites anymore?? Darn!!!

I have some. As a matter of fact 4-5 escaped there pen and wont let me catch them. Was just wondering why I never hear any in the woods.???

I havent heard bobs in years... When I was growing up I heard them all the time.... Wish I knew why>.

we have quite a few coveys of wild quail. You can hear them in the evening and in the am in a deer stand I counted on a good day over 20 coveys from 1 stand way up high over a BIG clear cut

Well here in California we dont have bobwhites, we do have gambles and valley quails, last year I saw three families of quails one with 15 chicks and the other two with more than 12 each! Altho I've never heard how they sound.

overhunting, disease from captive stock, habitat loss, etc... its kinda sad, but there are lots of organizations trying to bring them back

I started a post yesterday about this same subject. Seems the answer is fire ants killing the chicks while hatching or shortly after. A hunter told me this and BYC members said the same.

Yep, it's the blasted fire ants. We have NONE in this area anymore and they are native here. Makes me sick-I used to love to listen to the bobwhites.
